The Avery Coonley School is a coed PreK-Grade 8 independent school serving bright and academically gifted students.  The school is located in Downers Grove, a suburb 15 miles west of Chicago. 

Associate Director of Communications and Marketing

 

The school is currently seeking an Associate Director of Communications and Marketing.  Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and five or more years of experience in the nonprofit sector managing communication and marketing activities. Independent school or gifted education program experience is preferred.  

Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Communications and Marketing develops and implements a plan for print and online messaging and, in conjunction with the Head of School and Board of Trustees, establishes goals and priorities relating to all School marketing and communications.

Essential Responsibilities include:

  • Develops internal and external communications and marketing materials that positively and accurately portray all aspects of The Avery Coonley School.
  • Writes, edits, and oversees design and production of the ACS Magazine.
  • Publishes ACS News (weekly e-newsletter) and other electronic messages.
  • Works with Director of Technology to manage, design, and update the ACS website.
  • Coordinates the School’s social media presence.
  • Works closely with all School constituents including faculty, staff, parents, students, alumni, and other community members.
  • Develops and leads marketing strategy for ACS, in conjunction with Development Office and Admission Office.
  • Photographs and video-records events and edits final product for publicity.
  • Assists with ACS special events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EC Teacher

 

This is a half time position for our Monday-Friday morning early childhood program. We are looking for a teacher’s assistant who has a passion, energy and enthusiasm for working with pre-school aged children. The successful candidate will work effectively as a team member to plan and implement an educational program that meets the social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs of individuals and the whole class through developmentally-appropriate practices.

This candidate will have background and/or experience in education at the elementary or early childhood level and be able to foster a creative learning environment that is stimulating, safe, and nurturing for preschool aged children.

Job Qualifications:

* Bachelor’s degree in elementary and/or early childhood

* Ability to work collaboratively with school administrative and instructional personnel

* Knowledge of a broad range of instructional strategies, resources, and practices in pre-Kindergarten curriculum areas

* Strong communication skills utilizing person-to-person, written, and technological modalities

* Ability to cultivate strong partnerships with parents

JK Teacher

Substitute Teacher

 

The Avery Coonley School is actively seeking Substitute Teachers for the current school year. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree with previous teaching experience preferred. Experience in independent schools or gifted education is strongly preferred. Experience with the AESOP Substitute Hiring System is a plus!

 

Position Summary:

To provide meaningful instruction and supervision for assigned classes in the absence of regular classroom teacher.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Reports to school office at the beginning of the school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials. Follows sign out procedures as prescribed.

* Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by classroom teacher.

* Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

* Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lesson, units, or projects assigned.

* Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.

* Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.

* Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.

* Insures students are never left unattended in the classroom.

* May perform duties usually required of the absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.

* Knows emergency evacuation routes for classrooms assigned.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.
