The Importance and Tradition of Giving

The Avery Coonley School, like all independent schools, depends upon charitable giving to provide an excellent curriculum and environment for its students. The school was created through the magnificent philanthropy of Queene Ferry Coonley, and this tradition continues today through the generous support of its many constituencies. Philanthropic support of the ACS Fund, the Endowment Funds, and the Annual Auction are the most critical needs of the school and are essential to its financial integrity and long-term stability.

Giving Opportunities

Funds raised through the ACS Fund go directly to the school's operating budget. With the support of parent, grandparents, alumni, alumni parents, foundations, corporations and other friends of the school, the "gap" between tuition revenues and a balanced budget is filled. This ensures a strong financial foundation for the school.
In the summer of 2015, we began a major renovation of our 1929 building. Designed to honor and enhance the charm and beauty of the original structure, and to maintain the current footprint, the project will ensure a functional, flexible, and beautiful learning environment for generations to come.

The Endowment Funds
An independent school should have an endowment that is at least equal to the annual operating budget, which for ACS would mean an endowment of around $7 million. Progress toward this goal is an important initiative of the school's strategic plan.

The Annual Auction is held each spring and raises significant funds for the school's operating budget. The entire ACS community contributes to the success of this event.

The Morse Teacher Grants program is designed to create opportunities, broaden knowledge, and deepen the expertise of ACS teachers. The funded experiences are above and beyond normal professional development – including unique training, research, and collaboration around the world – and are intended to enhance in some special way the classroom experiences for both teachers and students.
