 Busy Month for Early Childhood

Since their first day as a full class, ACS' youngest members have been busy. EC's farm theme has included learning about farms, husking corn for a corn boil, and a visit from farm animals on Farmyard Fun Day on October 2.
In addition to all the farm fun, EC friends learned about the ACS mascot, the seahorse. On September 28, children toured the inside and outside of the big school looking for seahorses on their annual Seahorse Hunt. In one set of offices, the children found over 12 seahorses!

Seahorse Scramble and Ice Cream Social

On Sunday, September 27, the Seahorse Scramble golf outing and Ice Cream Social took place under mostly sunny skies. The Seahorse Scramble took place at Village Greens of Woodridge and was followed by the Ice Cream Social on the ACS campus.

There was great attendance for both events as ACS alumni, students, parents, and staff were able to reconnect and meet new members of the ACS community.

Getting Excited About Science at Gathering

On Monday, September 28, Steve Belliveau wowed ACS students at morning Gathering with his Getting Excited About Science show.

The physics-focused presentation included demonstrations of static energy, air and water pressure, pulleys, and the conservation of energy. One of the highlights of the show was watching Group Eight student Ben Yates get turned into a human gyroscope while holding a fast-moving wheel.

Group Three Overnight at Camp Edwards

On September 9, Group Three traveled to Camp Edwards in Wisconsin for their overnight trip. The trip coincides with their Outdoor Education unit and includes team building, lake study, and nature study. Activities include getting up close and personal with a snake, studying animal pelts, and sledding.

Eight Group Three parents traveled with the class as chaperones. The students will chronicle their experiences in a journal-like book that will be compiled and distributed before the holiday break in December.

 Group Five Visits Lincoln Marsh

Group Five spent September 22 at Lincoln Marsh in Wheaton. Lincoln Marsh Natural Area is a park with multiple habitats, recreational space, and diverse wildlife.

Students participated in several team-building and problem-solving activities.  The students completed a low-ropes course and faced a number of different challenges that required collaboration, communication, and creative problem solving.

 Group Six Visits Camp Timber-lee

Group Six students visited Camp Timber-lee in Wisconsin for an overnight camp experience. After dropping their bags, students spent one and a half days with varied team-building and outdoor education activities. High and low ropes courses, swamp "mucking", outdoor survival and archery were a few of the activities that kept everybody on the move.

The busy first day was capped with a campfire, s'mores, and a hayride through the grounds.
