Local Student Becomes One of the World’s Youngest TEDx Speakers

 At The Avery Coonley School, students are given unique opportunities to harness their love for learning. On October 23, 2023, the school hosted its first TEDxWomen event featuring talks by preschooler Bennett H., Group 5 student Kayla S., and other members of the ACS community including; Music Teacher Jaime Surdynski, Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Michael Dixon, and ACS Alum Priyanka Rupani.

Avery Coonley students compete at National History Day Competition.

In June, Jimmy Y. and Kavin B. went to Maryland to compete at The National History Day competition for middle and high school students from all 50 states, US territories, and American International Schools.

Their website, “Conquering the Cosmos” is about the US Space Race. We are so proud of them for all their hard work in presenting their research project.

The Avery Coonley School (ACS) is excited to share that their Physical Education (P.E.) program has been awarded Blue Ribbon status for the years 2023-2028 by the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (IAHPERD). The Blue Ribbon Committee gave the ACS P.E. program exemplary marks in all areas and noted no weaknesses to the program.
