As Illinois continues to battle the current COVID-19 pandemic, communities are rallying together to help one another in their time of need. Members of The Avery Coonley School community, an independent school based in Downers Grove, IL, are continuously brainstorming and implementing new ways to get involved and support one another. One member of The Avery Coonley School community stepped forward to provide hope for families in a special way during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many members of The Avery Coonley School community work in the medical field, including Mark Batts, an ER doctor at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He and his colleagues are treating COVID-19 patients on the front line. Given the increasing need for medical equipment, the school’s community has come together to help alleviate the stress this brings by creating an outlet for families to donate extra supplies and necessities.

While the healthcare industry is in desperate need of N95 masks, face shields, protective eye wear, shoe covers, and more, members of The Avery Coonley School community are encouraged to get involved and donate any protective gear they might own to support another parent and all the medical staff at Edward Hospital. Fellow parent, Fei Dong, worked with the administration and reached out to other parents in their class to organize a donation bin at The Avery Coonley School. Families can donate any extra materials safely and securely. Once an item is dropped off, members of the Avery Coonley School community will gather the donations and make sure they are delivered quickly and safely to those working at the Edward Hospital.
