Kristen Mitchell

Kristen Mitchell joined the faculty of The Avery Coonley School in 2003 and quickly helped establish the ACS Kindergarten program. She has a wide range of teaching experience in independent, public, and parochial schools.

Prior to ACS, Mrs. Mitchell was the Gifted Services Teacher in Glen Ellyn District 41 and a First Grade Teacher in Glenview District 37. She has an impressive record of creating collaborative learning communities through innovative programming including book publishing, family math, after-school programs, school-wide spirit projects, and character education.

Mrs. Mitchell has compiled an impressive array of professional development as both a presenter and attendee. She has presented to colleagues on effective differentiation in the gifted classroom and encouragement for the emergent reader. In addition to mentoring colleagues, Mrs. Mitchell has lectured at National – Louis University on preventative discipline and thematic instruction and at Roosevelt University on “Differentiation in Action.” Mrs. Mitchell has been recognized by several groups for her excellence in teaching. She has been nominated for the Golden Apple Award and the Disney Excellence in Teaching Award. She is a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Pi Lambda Theta, both international honor and professional associations for educators.
