Jennifer Garetto

Mrs. Garetto joined The Avery Coonley School in 2003 after her time as Director of Educational Programs at the Speaker Resource Center in Chicago. She has taught in both the Lower School and Middle School at ACS and brings a passion for science and technology well suited for gifted students. She is currently an Eighth Group advisor, Science Olympiad coach, and Science Fair coach. Mrs. Garetto has been instrumental in the growth of technology at ACS, serving as a member of the school’s tablet steering committee that launched the ACS tablet program.

Mrs. Garetto received an advanced certificate in Gifted Education from Northwestern University and has compiled an impressive array of professional development as both a presenter and attendee. She has presented at the National Association for Gifted Children annual conference, the Illinois Computer Educator conference, and has conducted tablet training for LearnTech. Mrs. Garetto has been published on the web site Tech and Learning, and been interviewed on educational technology by CDW, PalmOne and NBC5. Mrs. Garetto has attended numerous conferences in the areas of gifted education, educational computing and technology, middle school counseling, and outdoor field studies. She is the current ACS faculty representative to ISACS, and is a member of several national and state educational associations including the National Science Teacher Association, National Middle School Association, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the National Association for Gifted Children. In addition to her wide-ranging professional experience in support of her classroom teaching, Mrs. Garetto is a two-time Golden Apple Nominee, Golden Apple Semi-Finalist, and was named Tech and Learning’s 2005 Leader of the Year.

Jenny’s affinity for outdoor education and science grew from her childhood on a dairy farm in Southeastern Minnesota. She continues to enjoy gardening, cooking, yoga, Tai Chi Chuan, and all things technology.
