Alice Brown joined the faculty of The Avery Coonley School as Social Studies Department Chair in 2011. After graduating cum laude from Williams College, Ms. Brown taught at the Bilkent University Preparatory School in Ankara, Turkey, and at The Pingry School in Martinsville, New Jersey. At Pingry, she organized and led class trips to Washington D.C. and coordinated the 8th grade advisory team. In addition to her teaching experience, Ms. Brown has worked as a research assistant for the University of Chicago Cultural Policy Center.

Ms. Brown has conducted professional development in a wide range of topics ranging from the applications of neuroscience research on teaching and curriculum development, to methods for teaching about race and politics during the Civil War. She is also an alum of the 2012 Klingenstein Summer Institute, a program dedicated to fostering reflective teaching practice at independent schools.
